Peter Vamos is the Executive Director Of the Portage Program since 1979 . He is a psychologist by training and is the graduate of Sir George Williams, University of New Brunswick and McGill universities respectively. He has consulted extensively both nationally and internationally in areas of program development and training for the treatment of addictive disorders. He was a founding board member of the Therapeutic Communities of America, founding board member and secretary of the World Federation of Therapeutic Communities, board member of the Canadian Addiction Foundation, board member and president of The International Council on Alcoholism and Addictions, and board member of Les Amis de la Montagne in Montreal. He has served as coordinator and president of several international conferences, symposium and seminars. He was named Ambassador of the Palais des Congres de Montreal. He is the author of several articles and presentations on addiction and treatment.
In recognition of his achievements he was awarded a Doctor of Laws degree by Concordia University.
