Lisa Qiluqqi Koperqualuk, President, international Affairs, ICC Canada

Lisa Qiluqqi Koperqualuk was born in Puvirnituq on the eastern shore of Hudson Bay in Northern Quebec (Nunavik). Raised by her grandparents Lydia and Aisa Koperqualuk, her elementary schooling was done in Nunavik. She continued her education in Southern Canada earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Concordia University, Montreal; and a Master’s degree in Anthropology from Laval University, Quebec City. Her areas of interest include Inuit self-determination, social justice in particular related to Inuit customary law, the Arctic environment, and the Inuit culture and language.

She assisted in the founding of the Saturviit Inuit Women’s Association of Nunavik, which has become the forum where Inuit women voice their concerns around social justice issues. Lisa is a member of the Kativik Environmental Quality Commission (KEQC) since 2010, an independent decision-making body responsible for evaluating and reviewing development projects in Nunavik. She was a member of the Research Team of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, whose report was concluded in 2019.

She is currently President, International Affairs, for Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada (ICC Canada) as well as Deputy Negotiator for the Nunavik Inuit Self-Determination Project.
