Dr. Elaine Deschênes, social pediatrician

Native from Quebec City, Q.C., graduating from Sherbrooke University, Dr. Deschênes has worked as a pediatrician in Moncton under the Vitality Health Network since 1998. Officially a social pediatrician since 2018, and passionate about the best interest and the optimal development of a child, Dr. Deschênes strongly believes that positioning children at the core of our societal intentions would foster resilient communities and a strong social fabric. Protecting children by bridging professions, socio-economic levels and generations, communities have the power to create more equitable, healthy and prosperous societies. Surrounded by a dedicated team, she develops community-based social pediatrics for children living in vulnerable situations in Memramcook, South Kent and North Kent (N.B.). Inspired by the Dr. Julien Foundation model in Montreal, Q.C., this approach brings together the expertise of the child, the family, the law, health and social services and mobilizes the community to take care of its children.
